Dr. Francess Fornah, is the first and current Principal of the School of midwifery Makeni, under the Ministry of Health in Sierra Leone, a position she holds since the inception of the school in 2010. She has worked at all levels of the Sierra Leone health system as a frontline worker, supervisor, and manager. In addition, Dr. Fornah is a Public Health and Midwifery specialist, a part-time lecturer at the University of Makeni (UNIMAK) and the Tonkolili College of health sciences (TDCHS) in Massanga.
In addition, as a Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Nursing and midwifery, and the Sierra Leone Postgraduate College of Health Specialties, she serves as the Fellowship Examiner and Chairman, and Board member, of the Faculty of Midwifery, and Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing respectively. Dr. Francess Fornah is currently the President of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Nursing Honor Society of the Alpha Beta Upsilon At-large Chapter (618). She is an advocate for adolescents and women empowerment through education.

She holds:

  • A Professional Certificate in General Nursing (RN) and Midwifery from the National School of Nursing and the National School of Midwifery respectively

  • A Diploma in Community Medicine and Health (DCM&H) from the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COMAHS), University of Sierra Leone;

  • A Diploma in Nursing Education (with a specialty in Midwifery) from the Federal Training Center for Teachers of Health Sciences, University College Hospital, University of Ibadan, Nigeria;

  • A BSc. (Hons) in International Midwifery at Edge Hill University, Ormskick, United Kingdom;

  • A Joint Master’s in Health Profession Education (JMHPE) from the Suez Canal University in Egypt and Maastricht University, The Netherlands;

  • A Ph.D. in Public Health at the Walden University, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.
